Position: Section Head

Department: Senior Leadership Team

Line Manager: Principal


         The core purpose of this role is to provide professional, highly effective leadership and management that will achieve outstanding results in all aspects of Secondary School life. The Head of Secondary promotes an inspiring vision and clear direction that is shared by all members of the Secondary School and the Senior Leadership Team. Ultimately, the Head of Secondary is responsible for ensuring that the curriculum, teaching and assessment practices inspire high levels of engagement, achievement, and progress for students of all abilities.

Job Description:

  • Exercise effective subject leadership within the school.
  • Maintain and sustain the ethos of School consistent with the mission statement and the aims and objectives of the Board, Director, and Headteacher.
  • Liaise with the School Leadership Team (SLT) on matters pertaining to the subject, as appropriate.
  • Liaise with Heads of Year, curriculum coordinators and others as appropriate in respect to matters pertaining to the subject and/or cross-curricular aspects/initiatives.
  • Inform the School Development/Improvement Plan and lead/oversee elements of it as designated and/or as appropriate.
  • Employ effective preparation of students for the external examinations further ensuring the integrity of the examinations.
  • Monitor consistency, continuity, and progression in the subject for all students.
  • Identify the professional development needs of staff and delegate; provide training and induction as appropriate.
  • Be responsible for the safety and well-being of all students through positive recognition and high expectations for behavior and conduct.
  • Build and maintain relationships with School parents and the community by establishing regular and appropriate communications with all members of the school community, both internally and externally.
  • Ensure that all school policies, procedures, and routines are effective, efficient and reviewed annually with appropriate staff members.


Education: Master’s degree, Teaching certification, Principal/educational management qualification.

Experience: Years of school management/leadership in a similar setting.
